Online Community

When I first started thinking about what online community meant, being the person that I am, I went strait to thinking about "myspace". Not so say this is a good thing or a bad thing, but my mind started to think about how this could be utilized within a college classroom. Maybe this is the sort of technology that online communities should move towards. While working through Moodle I noticed that it has a lot of the same advantages, without a lot of the hold ups. I think that it is nice, especially when the group is active. I have noticed that when the group isn't active, for even as long as a day, it can feel like you're in this alone. The hardest thing about online communities is that it is harder to schedule time. We all have very different lives and schedules, and that is the hardest part. To mix this into my classes I think would be extremely beneficial. Not only does it give groups a place to meet when they can't physically meet, but they can also keep each other updated on progress. The wiki that we used this week is great. Everyone can edit the paper together, and not leave it up to one person. This is something I am definitely going to integrate into my group communication courses.
